These terms apply to clinicians and others who submit a claim ("Claimants") to ExtraordinaryTrials.com, operated by Mark Davis d/b/a ExtraordinaryTrials.com (the "Platform"). By submitting a claim, you agree to these terms.
Each claim submission requires a $100 review fee, which pays for a professional review of your submission. The fee is non-refundable, whether or not your claim is accepted, and whether or not any campaign is created or funded.
Our intent is to accept most claims that are testable: the question we ask in review is not whether your claim is likely to be true, but whether a well-designed trial could determine whether it is. We may decline claims that we judge to be untestable, unsafe to test, unlawful, or outside the scope of the Platform. Acceptance of a claim is not an endorsement of it, and does not guarantee that a campaign will be created, funded, or completed.
You represent that the information you submit is accurate and that you hold the credentials you describe. You grant us permission to display your submission materials (your name, credentials, claim description, qualifications, and linked works) on the Platform if a campaign is created, and to use them in connection with promoting the campaign.
If your claim proceeds to a campaign, you will contribute substantially to trial design so that the tested conditions match your claimed ability. Independent experts control the statistical plan and safeguards against bias. Both you and the research team must sign off on the final protocol (including what result counts as success) before the trial begins, after which the protocol is locked.
If you and the research institution cannot agree on a final protocol after good-faith effort, the campaign may be discontinued. In that case, Backer funds are handled under the Backer Refund Policy; your review fee is not refunded; and any stipend not yet earned is not paid.
A portion of each campaign's trial-design funds may be reserved as a stipend paid to you for your contribution to trial design. The stipend amount, if any, is disclosed on the campaign page.
You may waive your stipend. If you do, the waived amount is treated as your own backing of the campaign: you'll be counted among the campaign's backers, and the funds go to the campaign purpose. Many claimants choose this; it is a strong signal of confidence in your own claim.
For clarity, the Platform does not guarantee: that your claim will be accepted; that an accepted claim will attract funding; that a funded design stage will result in IRB approval (design-stage funds pay for applying, and re-applying if needed, not for a particular outcome); that a trial will produce any particular result; or that results will be accepted by any journal. Trial results are posted openly on the Platform regardless of outcome, and where appropriate submitted for peer-reviewed publication.
Once a protocol is locked, you agree not to interfere with the conduct of the trial, its data collection, or its analysis, beyond any role expressly defined in the protocol. Your conflicts of interest, including any financial relationship with the Platform or campaign backers, will be disclosed on the campaign page. Claimants affiliated with the Platform are recused from independent-oversight decisions concerning their own trials.
